Just look how straight those quarter panels are, how nice the gaps are, and you should hear how those doors sound when you close them.

Real code 3L RS in great colors. Crate 350 with 4-speed (the original 327 is available). Laser-straight bodywork with nicely preserved interior. Freshly rebuilt headlights. Upgraded stereo. A cool early Camaro with great performance and smart upgrades.

Early Camaros are notoriously difficult to authenticate and document, but fortunately GM listed RPO Z22, the Rally Sport package, right there on the trim tag as code 3L. We also spent quite a bit of time rebuilding the headlights, and the motors, wiring, and switch were all original. But beyond that, this is one straight F-body! Just look how straight those quarter panels are, how nice the gaps are, and you should hear how those doors sound when you close them. Black stripes are a Camaro trademark and look awesome, as does the ducktail spoiler out back. Other RS details include the ‘rs’ emblems on the front fenders, an RS-specific gas cap, and back-up lights under the rear bumper instead of integrated into the taillights. The black vinyl roof is in excellent condition, surely replaced when the car was repainted a few years ago, and there is no sign of trouble underneath. Nice chrome bumpers, bright stainless wheel arch trim, and erstwhile ‘327’ emblems round out a very appealing package.

Camaro interiors are simple, effective, and stylish, and the bucket seats in this car remain in great condition. We believe the front seats have been re-covered and the carpets are replacements, but the rest appears original, including the beautiful back seat. The wood-rimmed wheel adds a little warmth to the all-black interior, and the deep-set gauges are just plain cool. We love the industrial look of the Hurst shifter without a console, and someone has thoughtfully added auxiliary gauges under the dash to monitor the engine’s vitals. Entertainment comes from a modern Alpine stereo with an iPod interface neatly tucked under the carpets behind the shifter and new speakers discreetly stashed throughout the interior. The headliner is taut, the package shelf is in great shape, and the dash pad isn’t cracked or baked by the sun. There’s also a good-sized trunk whose sheetmetal is in great condition and includes a new mat and full-sized spare tire assembly.

The engine is a recent GM 355 cubic inch crate motor** topped with an aluminum intake manifold, 4-barrel carburetor, and fired by an MSD electronic ignition. A few dress-up items like the air cleaner and valve covers add some flash and there’s a big radiator up front to keep it cool. It starts easily, idles nicely, and pulls hard through all four gears. It just works like a Chevy small block V8 is supposed to work. Long-tube headers feed a rumbling dual exhaust system with Flowmaster style mufflers and those polished chrome tips under the rear bumper look awesome. The Muncie 4-speed racks through the gears with ease and feels indestructible, so go ahead and have some fun, while the 10-bolt rear feels like it has 3.55 gears inside—enough to be punchy but not too much on the highway. Most importantly, the floors are in excellent condition, the rockers show no issues, and all the critical support areas are solid. There’s also a brand-new gas tanking hanging out back. The stance is just right, and it sits on a set of 14-inch Rally wheels with spinners and 205/70/14 BFGoodrich T/A radials.

**The original, numbers-matching 327 cubic inch V8 is available with the car, please inquire for details.

Documentation includes a factory chassis service manual and a Chilton’s repair guide.

This isn’t a car that you need to worry about pedigrees and points at shows. Instead, it’s the Camaro you look forward to driving on a sunny Saturday morning or rolling into the local cars and coffee where it’ll garner more than its fair share of appreciative glances. It’s also a blast to drive with the 4-speed and a direct mechanical feel that makes these cars so popular. It’s solid, straight, and with long-term ownership, it has a clean history.
